1. Post your Holiday wishlist to your LJ. Items can be fannish or not, small or extravagant. Have fun!
2. Look around your flist and grant any wishes you can to OTHERS. This includes sending actual gifts if you want!
3. Re-post your wishlist two weeks before the holiday as a reminder.

This has been going around my flist, and the latest [livejournal.com profile] bsg_epics post finally convinced me to make one myself!

My wish list! )

♥ Link me if you've made one of these posts - I've lost track already.

Hey, guys.

I hate doing this, but it’s time. With LiveJournal becoming less and less active and other websites (Twitter, Tumblr, etc.) become moreso, this journal has evolved from being primarily fandom-oriented to a much more personal journal. I know that a lot of you guys added me because of common fandom interests – some of which we may no longer share – and that’s been a great basis to form some really brilliant friendships. At this point, though, unless there’s something more to substantiate it, LJ doesn’t feel like the best place to share those interests anymore. If I’m going to be writing about my personal life, I’d like to have a better sense of who’s reading it (and I’m sure some of you aren’t interested in my blathering anyway!). With that in mind, I’ve gone ahead with a friends cut. As always, if you’d like to remain or if you think I’ve cut you by mistake, just let me know.

You guys are all awesome, and I love sharing fandom with you! This just isn’t the place for it anymore. Feel free to add me on Twitter (@averita_) or Tumblr (averita), which are much more fandom-oriented.

Any questions you've wanted to ask me, but didn't know how? Maybe we haven't known each other too long and you're playing catch up, or maybe we've known each other for years but somehow you've never figured out what I do for a living. Go ahead and ask! Anything goes.

Anon commenting is on, IP logging is off. I'll answer in a seperate post.

Title: Out of Gas and Riding on Air

Author: [livejournal.com profile] averita

Summary: For weeks, she’s been desperate to get this trial over with, to send Gaius Baltar through an airlock and move on with the rest of the fleet. She still is, but now there’s a new battle to fight, and part of her is ready to lay down her arms.

AN: Written for [livejournal.com profile] duathkaimler for the [livejournal.com profile] adama_roslin Secret Santa exchange. Her request was "an Adama/Roslin fic that occurs within season 3 or season 4. I suppose I just wish for something happy (that could include fluff, smut, both, or anything else!), that involves a stolen moment between the two of them on Galactica (outside of Bill's quarters). If it involves Saul somehow, that would be awesome, but not a requirement."

The last fic I wrote was for last year's exchange, so I'm a bit rusty. Between my constant nitpicking and catching a miserable cold a couple of days ago, it's taken me awhile to finish - I'm sorry I'm just now posting it!

I tried to make it happy, I really did, and I think I succeeded on some counts! It's angsty fluff, if you will. I hope you enjoy nonetheless. Happy Holidays :)

Disclaimer: Not mine. Title taken from "One Big Love" by Patty Griffin.

It had been too much to hope for. )

Over the past months, there has been drama. There have been macros. There has been bitchfacing that Mary McDonnell herself can't compete with.

There have been cookies.

And now, there is a winner.

The three judges - [livejournal.com profile] still_might_be, [livejournal.com profile] lily_winterwood, and [livejournal.com profile] averita - have posted their individual thoughts, and after much name-calling, bitterness, and irreversibly destroyed friendships, they have come to a conclusion. Two of the three judges are satisfied, and even [livejournal.com profile] still_might_be appears to have grudgingly accepted the results[livejournal.com profile] still_might_be is an angry, bitter crone who doesn't play nicely with other ladies. The competition was fierce, the scores were close, and at long last...

Ladies and no gentlemen, I present to you the winner of America's Next Top Iron Chef: Fangirl Island ... )

NOTE: The Head Judge refuses to participate in the creation of this entry* on the grounds that her co-judges are shallow, dimwitted Philistines with tastebuds wired to their eyes and not to their palates. They decide based on packaging, like those people who pay for Evian mineral water facial spray. These idiots would FAIL to recognize Laura Roslin's awesomeness if it met them on a dark night. [livejournal.com profile] averita even admitted outright: "I also think that [livejournal.com profile] meryl_edan is more likely to destroy me if I vote against her." Cowards! Head Judge doesn't know what gods she pissed off that her high culinary discernment should be forced to associate with such misfits.

* A message of hate does not count as participation. Don't argue semantics with her... your health is a precious thing.

I encourage everyone to look at [livejournal.com profile] still_might_be’s cookie post for her indescribably brilliant fandom-cookie comparisons. There’s no way for me to top that, so I’m going to go with a more scientific look at things!

Upon receiving [livejournal.com profile] meryl_edan’s cookies last Wednesday, I was very impressed with the pink tissue paper, gold seals, and overall classy presentation. As tempting as the goodies were, I stashed them away in the refrigerator, covered in post-its warning my family not to eat on pain of death. When [livejournal.com profile] lavenderseaslug’s package arrived the next day, with my name written on it in cute blue bubble letters, I didn’t wait long to tear into it.

After carefully arranging the six types of cookies on the table and making the tea that [livejournal.com profile] meryl_edan had thoughtfully provided to go along with her Earl Grey Tea Cookies, I dove in. My brothers, just home from school, selflessly volunteered to help. They had one of each cookie (or one half of the larger varieties) and gave the following critique: "These rock. Your friends are awesome."

The final tallies, based on a judging criteria that took into account appearance, taste, texture, and the overall average, make the final decision difficult. [livejournal.com profile] meryl_edan’s Gingerbread White Chocolate Blondie came in first, with an overall score of 8.7, closely followed by [livejournal.com profile] lavenderseaslug’s Spritz Cookie with an 8.6. [livejournal.com profile] lavenderseaslug’s Chocolate Chip Cookie beat out [livejournal.com profile] meryl_edan’s by .2 points in the “control” category. [livejournal.com profile] meryl_edan’s average score was 8.3, just above [livejournal.com profile] lavenderseaslug’s 8.1.

See here [livejournal.com profile] meryl_edan's selection. On top, we have the Earl Grey Tea Cookie with Earl Grey Tea. Below, see the Chocolate Chip Cookie and the winning Gingerbread White Chocolate Blondie.

[livejournal.com profile] lavenderseaslug presented us with the Chocolate Molasses Cookie (on top), her Chocolate Chip Cookie, and the famed and delicious Spritz Cookie.

The entire selection.

The winner will be announced tonight, on this very page. Stay tuned!
